Welcome to Mathematical Methods 2009

Welcome to Mathematical Methods Units 3 & 4 for 2009. I am looking forward to working together with you to assist you to acheive the result that you need to achieve your aims for the year.

This blog is an important part of the learning supports that I can provide as a help to you. It is the launching pad for other important resources that are directly related to your learning. Two of these learning resources are:

1) On the left hand side menu you will notice a link to the Maths Methods Wiki. This Wiki will contain worked solutions to most of the problems you are required to complete. This Wiki will be a significant assistance when you are stuck on a problem, especially when you are studying at home. The Wiki is a private space and requires membership before you can access it. (Maths Methods 1 & 2 students who used it last year will still have access using their 2008 login and password.) The reason I have made it private is because there is a copyright issue. The problems used come from your textbook and while you have purchased this book others have not, so I need to block access out of respect for the textbook authors and publishers. Please do not give others access to the site for this reason.

2) Videos tutorials of the work we are doing will also be available to you. These videos have the “feel” of being in class. You will find them very helpful when you are stuck on a problem, or to use for revision come exam time. You can view these videos online (located at Teachertube) or use the Teachertube Video Download Tool. Once you have installed this tool you will be able to download the tutorials to your computer or iPod for ready access.

So let’s get started!

Orientation Work for 2009 – (Preparation due first day of class)
As you are aware, during the Orientation Program last November you were given work that is to be completed before you return to school in 2009. This included Chapters 7 (Introductory Probability) & 13 (Combinatorics) from your Year 11 textbook.

The worked solutions for Ex 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 are now on the Wiki ready to access. Similarly the worked solutions for Ex 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4 and most of 13.5 are also now uploaded to the Wiki.

Below are links to the support videos for Ex 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3. (Support videos for Chapt 13 will follow in a week or so.)

2. Thanks Irene. I agree that Hannah is beautiful. I love giving her a cuddle and talking with her. She listens to you as if she can understand what you are saying. I am certainly enjoying being a Granddad! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Now as far as joining the Wiki goes I have sent you an invitation so I hope that will sort out the access issue for you. You will have to join Wikispaces though.

See you next Tuesday.

Mr Thwaites
PS let me know if you have any further access issues and we’ll sort them out. πŸ™‚
